Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (PDP, Delta North) Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs and members of the committee has today, successfully screened the nominees of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Those successfully screened are Dr Pius Odubu (Edo State) Chairman; Mr Bernard Okumagba (Delta) Managing Director; Engr Otobong Ndem (Akwa Ibom) Executive Director, Projects; Mr Maxwell Oko (Bayelsa) Executive Director (Finance & Admin); Prophet Jones Erue (Delta) Delta Rep; Chief Victor Ekhator (Edo) Edo Rep; Dr Joy Yimebe Nunieh (Rivers) Rivers Rep; Mr Nwogu N. Nwogu (Abia) Abia Rep; Mr Theodore A. Allison (Bayelsa) Bayelsa Rep; Mr Victor Antai (Akwa Ibom) Akwa Ibom Rep; Mr Maurice Effiwatt (Cross River) Cross River Rep; Mr Olugbenga Edema (Ondo) Ondo Rep; Hon Uchegbu C Kyrian (Imo) Imo Rep; Aisha Murtala Muhammed (Kano) North-West Rep; Shuaibu Ado Zubairu (Adamawa) North-East Rep; Amb Abdullahi M Bage (Nasarawa) North-central Rep.
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi in his speech, implored the nominees to put in their very best towards the development of the Niger Delta region in the event of their confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
Speaking further, the Anioma-born legal practitioner urged them to see their appointment as a call for service and a privilege to contribute their quota for the overall growth of the people and the communities.
The representative of the nominees Chief Victor Ekhator thanked Senator Peter Nwaoboshi and his committee for the opportunity to appear before it and promised to put in their very best in the discharge of their duties.
They further thanked Senator Peter Nwaoboshi for being a true statesman, a detribalized politician and a man who embraces everyone irrespective of political party.
DANTSOHO TAKES OVER AS THE NEW PORT MANAGER, ONNE PORT COMPLEX
Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has taken over as the new Port Manager of Onne Port Complex. The new posting came as a result of some re-sufflement and reassignment by the MD, Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala Usman.
Dantsoho arrived the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa, Rivers state from Lagos and was received by Management team from Onne Port including the Acting Port Manager, Dr. Julius Agbo, the Principal Manager Corporate and Strategic Communication, Mrs. Barbara Ejemeh Nchey-Achukwu, Head of Departments including some labour unions among others.
Welcoming the new Port Manager at the Conference Room NPA, Federal Lighter Terminal Onne, the outgoing Port Manager Alhassan Ismaila Abubakar represented by Dr Julius Agbo, Chief Medical Director Onne Port expressed satisfaction for the new posting saying that the only thing constant in life is change. He maintained that such changes strengthen the operations of Nigerian Ports Authority( NPA)
“We are happy to have you at the Port” he said insisting that the level of attendance by Heads of Departments shows how happy we are to receive you as the new Port Manager.
Responding, the new Port Manager Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho expressed appreciation on the warm reception accorded him while thanking the NPA Management Onne Port and other stakeholders for their excellent performance even as he applauded the HODs, for their wonderful contribution in making Onne Port a revenue hub for the nation. “Onne Port is a thriving Port competing favourably in revenue generation next to Lagos Ports” he said.
He commended the outgoing Port Manager, Alhassan Ismiala Abubakar for his contributions and achievement at Onne Port and solicited with HODs, other staff ,including Port users to extend such cooperation accorded his predecessor to take the Port to a greater heights.
Continuing, Dr. Dantsoho enjoined the workers to always be team player, noting that such is key to achieving a remarkable progress. He said, team work encourages all to learn from one another adding that Onne Port has made remarkable progress in areas of enhancement of efficiency, improved workers welfare and operational capabilities among others.
He however noted that NPA Onne is a success story and appealed all to work harder to boost more revenue generation even as he urged all to embrace M/D,Hadiza Bala Usman’s qualities of dedication to work, unwavering courage, sympathy and understanding while describing her as an epitome of professionalism.
He assured that under his administration, they will move Onne Port to a higher level.
In his remarks, Chairman, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (NWUN ) Onne chapter, Comrade Jonah Chukwu, welcomed the Port Manager. He said Onne Port is a family Port where family bond is established leading to team work, revealing that as a new Port Manager ,he is inheriting assess and liabilities.
Assets in the area of committed and hardworking staff while liabilities in the area of welfare packages for staff.
Meanwhile, in a press interview after assuming office, the Port Manager, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho said his vision amongst others is to improve the revenue generation of Onne Port saying that NPA management has invested a lot of funds to ensure improvement in efficiency of Onne port in the area of facilities, equipment and channel dredging, noting that the implication is to help generate more revenue.

IPMAN commends Organized Labor for shoving planned nationwide strike
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has commended the Federal government for dialoging with the organized labor and civil society organizations to suspend the planned nationwide industrial action.
National Public Relation Officer of IPMAN Chinedu Ukadike while reacting to the suspension of the strike said “ on behalf of our National President Alhaji Engineer Sanusi Abdu, we congratulate the federal government and the NLC for amicably putting this strike on hold, pending the negotiations. This was a transparent advise given by the National President of IPMAN Alhaji Engineer Sanusi Abdu, when he was consulted in Abuja. So for the organized Labor to listen to our amiable President and shove the planned strike, I really commend them. And for the federal government to listen to the plea of stakeholders to engage the organized Labour, it shows the Buhari led administration is sensitive to the plight of the people.’’
National Public Relation Officer of IPMAN Chinedu Ukadike, however frowned that the National President of IPMAN Alhaji Engineer Sanusi Abdu was not part of the committee, “ the IPMAN controls 90% of distribution channels and regulates prices of petroleum in line with the deregulation, so I appeal to the federal government to always consider us and include us in such process.’’
Chinedu Ukadike however assured motorists in Rivers State of abundance of Petrol and other petroleum products. He warned against panic buying as the NNPC has put measures in place to ensure non scarcity of products in the state. Chinedu Ukadike commended minister for Petroleum, Timipre Sliver for considering marketers to transform their filling stations to gas stations, “ the minister has been assiduously working hard to ensure that some of our filling stations are been converted to gas stations and also some of our cars been converted to gas, so we wont be dependent on fuel. It’s a good invention and we commend him’’, said.
